hey man what the hell! these are really good! like, really good! What is the extent of your musical knowledge? I actually dunno where to start to give you criticism because these are sweet! How do you go about making these, as in do you hum a tune, play random notes or whatever.

I spend like 15 min, just pick a key, stick to it, do some basic chord progressions and make a random melody

I played cello for a bunch of years but that's about it. I'll get fraps running on this computer and then you can decided how I make them; I'm not really sure.

Okay, so I got FRAPS working, but of course I realize I take forever on these and you don't want to sit there and watch me click stuff for four hours. Yeah, this most recent one was four hours. I timed it this time, but it feels like it's taking progressively longer... However, I DID take note of my creative process, which I put into this handy list format for making music. Also, I uploaded the Musagi file if you're interested.

1. Start with general "idea" for piece format and screw around with instruments
2. Find a couple notes that sound decent and turn them into a bassline
3. Change instrument, rhythm, and generally fiddle with bassline to turn it into the melody
4. Make the melody sound good; inspiration usually strikes after having to work the bassline for a while
5. Make the rest of the piece fit the completed melody
6. Bells and whistles

The finished product:

That one's my favorite so far... The organ one's probably the runner up, but I hate the dissonance I hear in it now. And what program do you use for music creation? So many out there I'm probably not familiar with it? If it's not proprietary, I'll probably give it a try.

feel free to time-shrink it down to 8 or 16 minutes next time. I use propellorhead reason, which is proprietory :/ tbh I preferred your other pieces to this one.

cello is a supremely cool instrument to learn, i wish i knew how to play it.

I hate the cello's impracticality. Too big to carry around like a guitar/violin/whatever, and not ubiquitous like a piano. And mine is a shitty one that doesn't even sound nice. Ah well, it's still fun once in a while.

I'll probably take one more stab at composing, maybe something aimed at Block, so I guess I'll leave FRAPS open while I do it. I wish Musagi didn't have such a high overhead for CPU...

Can you recommend any other decent composition programs then? I've tampered with Anvil Studio a bit, but that's all MIDI, and Audacity is not exactly ideal for making stuff.

I literally don't know a single cellist that isn't simultaneously a composer.

So far only one is good.

How many cellists can one know?

Anyway, here's the newest one. JMickle, the creation of this one is stowed away on the livestream channel, http://www.livestream.com/wrpgs.

I'm sure it'd be better than expected, if real instruments were used. Maybe some other software would be better suited.

Not enough to make it statistically significant, unfortunately.

Your new song is good, just like the others.

musagi is the best your gonna get for free.

the only other option is LMMS and i don't like it's interface at all. It's incredibly convoluted and not creativity-friendly at all. You can use VSTs in musagi, and in turn can have any instrument you want. Just google for some VSTs and you will do fine.

Oh neat. I was searching around for imu instrument files and couldn't find anything, and I guess that's why.

All right, this one took forever to make. While the other ones had 6 revisions at most, this one had 16. It's not too low quality though.

"highly_unresponsive" - Kind of like how Musagi gets after running for >30 minutes... has to be a memory leak somewhere.
